They are hand built, wheel thrown, and many are made from plaster molds of vegetables grown in her garden. The Raku firing process involves carefully removing the sculpture from the kiln while the glaze is molten, then “smoking” it in barrels of pine needles, sawdust, or leaves, all of which will produce metallic copper or crackle surfaces—it is an alchemy of fire and smoke that is preserved on the surface of the object; every piece is unique and exhibites a wide range of color. Berlian Arts has made a special selection from this year’s harvest and offers them as groups for you to arrange as permanent one-of-a-kind Still Lifes in your home.
